Live, Laugh, Love
A few days ago, my friend Alessandra sent me this DM. “honestly? what if the big secret is just live laugh love. won’t we feel stupid” the tweet read. “You and I on our 5th glass of wine” she added.
Live, laugh, love has become a phrase typically associated with the home goods aisles of stores like Marshalls and TJ Maxx. It’s plastered across wood cutouts meant to hang in kitchens or on bedroom walls in your house. It’s on sweaters. It’s on picture frames. It’s meant to resonate most with people who find these types of messages as adequate expressions of their soul. Now, most people online make fun of the phrase all together or use it ironically.
But, what started out as a joke has become somewhat of a mantra for Alessandra and me. What IF the big secret to life boils down to three words: live, laugh, love. Is that truly so hard to believe? Or to hope? Or to go about your life?
For 2020, I want to live, laugh, love.
I’m determined to view life positively.
I’m determined to share abundance.
I’m determined to not make anyone’s life harder than it needs to be.
I’m determined to joke with friends.
I’m determined to support others.
I’m determined to be present.
I may sound foolish or naive. But, in the face of so much hopelessness and negativity that we’re bombarded with every day, how do we keep going? We survive together. We find moments of joy to bond us. We live life thoughtfully and deliberately. We laugh with one another. We love and are loved.
I’m looking forward to 2020.
Thank you for reading The Anchor throughout this past year! I’ve been continually amazed by and grateful for the number of people who have not only read my work but also took the time to respond to these newsletters.
I am starting a new job in New York next week, so I will be busy for quite a while and unsure when I will write next. Until then, thanks again for reading and have a wonderful 2020! Live, laugh, love my friends.
